A Marietta Podiatrist Take On Plantar Fibromas of the Foot

Fibroma foot

While plantar fasciitis is a common occurrence that can cause pain to the bottom of the foot, fibromas can be a possibility as well. A fibroma (or plantar fibroma) is a large bump or circular mass that is noted to the bottom of the foot. Sometimes they can be painful, but sometimes there is no pain.

The most important thing to do when a mass is located on the foot or ankle, is to make sure it is nothing malignant. An MRI or a biopsy may be warranted to get a proper diagnosis.

If the mass is identified as a plantar fibroma of the foot, there are multiple treatment options that can be used. Your Podiatrist will go over all possibilities of treatment. These may include: topical treatment, injections, needling, excision, Tenex, and ordering more advanced imaging. Physical therapy for the foot and custom orthotics are also a possible treatment option as well.

If you are concerned about a mass on your foot, please reach out to our Podiatrists and schedule an appointment with us.
